Tinctures can sometimes have a heavy funk, sometimes they can taste like nothing at all. Humboldt Apothecary’s Blues Away is something altogether different: It tastes like a bittersweet amaro, bordering on a fernet, with notes of cinnamon and mint in the syrupy mix. For something that can promote good sleep and, as the name implies, boost your mood, it’s a nice callback to an after-dinner drink — if you drink it straight from the eyedropper. (It’s also quite lovely in a glass of water, providing a subtly bittersweet flavor to your boring old glass of H2O — and can be used as a cocktail ingredient.)
In addition to cannabis extract, additional ingredients include St. John’s Wort, lemon balm, and Siberian ginseng. Strain information is not available.
I love the flavor and calming impact of Blues Away — it’s notably effective and works quickly to support mood and sleep — but it isn’t cheap. I paid $44 for the 30ml vial, which works out to 23 cents per mg of CBD and a whopping 71 cents per mg of THC. Yes, you’re getting some St. John’s Wort and ginseng thrown in there, but it’s still a tough sell at this price.
That said, I really do enjoy not only the experience of the tincture but the flavor as well. Can you really put a price on that?
