Flora + Bast produces a remarkable range of products designed with skin care and sleep improvement both in mind. (Various mood and sex-enhancing products are also sold, but these aren’t reviewed here.)
It would take me pages to get through every one of Flora + Bast’s skin and sleep products — I sampled about eight in total — so I’m going to focus primarily on the products that I felt worked the best. Let’s start with the skin:
Flora + Bast Soothe + Hydrate Barrier Building Hydrosol Primer – This product (Cannabis Hydrosol, Cucumber Hydrosol, Lavendar Hydrosol, German Chamomile Hydrosol) is a spray-on alternative to moisturizer, designed for the face. Just spray it on like a mist, and massage it in. In 28 days you are supposed to be able to go without traditional moisturizing lotions. I felt this worked surprisingly well, even on my very dry skin, and while I still have days where my skin feels exceptionally dry, it did largely work as advertised, allowing me to forgo moisturizer. Is moisturizer a bad thing? I’m not sure, but anyway: $44/50ml. Rating: 8/10
Flora + Bast Ceramide Moisture Seal – This is an oil-based companion to the Hydrosol covered above, including Squalane, Ceramosides, Cannabis Sativa Extract (500mg CBD per vial), and Medium Chain Triglycerides. A few drops on top of the Hydrosol is designed to improve the skin’s “acid mantle” protective barrier. I can’t speak to its effectiveness on that front, but it did seem to help marginally with rosacea. $88/50ml. Rating: 7/10
Flora + Bast Relief Potion – This is an interesting product, with over 1000mg of CBD in a 30ml vial, that can be used topically or ingested. I tried it on sore joints and found it effective, but much less than lotion-based products like Just CBD. A drop on the tongue is effective at helping anxiety and improving overall mood. $88/30ml. Rating: 7/10
Flora + Bast Deep Sleep Bioceutical Gummy w/ CBN – Pre-sleep gummies with 100mg L-theanine, 20mg CBN, and 50mg CBD per gummy. That’s a healthy dose and I found these remarkably effective at promoting a deep sleep with no sense of grogginess or “hangover” in the morning, though the gummies do take up to an hour to really kick into high gear. Plan accordingly. I recommend drinking plenty of water with your gummy, also. $55/44 count. Rating: 8/10
Flora + Bast’s products are far from cheap, but the quality is universally high and for the most part they have the promised effects. Watch out for some of the other topicals, as the terpene smell can be intense — and hard to scrub off — particularly when applied to the face.
